Saturday 22nd May 2010

Some basic boat handling training was carried out today with Venturer Rescue One, the day passed without incident afloat or ashore requiring our assistance.

Sunday 23rd May 2010

With perfect weather and light winds many people chose to take to the waters of the Solent today unfortunately for two vessels there lunches afloat were prolonged by unfortunately running aground! one vessel in the Beaulieu River needed no more than a check up but were happy to sit it out and await the incoming tide. with the weather conditions so good on scene there was no need to move the vessel or crew.

Another yacht was later found aground on the Brambles bank. VR1's crew layed a Kedge anchor for them but again the weather conditions gave no reason for concern. both vessels were monitored and Coastguard advised once they were clear of the banks. during this time our shore based first aid crew attended to a minor first aid incident on the beach.

Later this evening we were notified by a member of the public of a serious traffic accident on the Lepe to Blackfield Road involving a couple of cars one of which had overturned.

Victor Alpha Zero One (Our Rapid Response Vehicle) was immediately dispatched with our duty medic and the duty officer.

VA01 was on scene within 2 minutes and were informed by members of the public that only one vehicle was actually involved in the accident but one other car plus two cyclists were narrowly missed as the vehicle swerved and skidded from one side of the road to the other. Witnesses stated the final time the vehicle came into contact with one of the banks it rolled over.

The driver scrambled free and was challenged by the members of the public / witnesses as he appeared to be allegedly under the influence.

The driver then ran from the scene of the accident towards black field.

The Venturers response team checked the vehicle to ensure that there were no other occupants and also checked the banks, verges and hedgerows from were the vehicle lost control to ensure no other persons has been ejected from the vehicle.

On the arrival of the police the Venturers response team assisted the police with traffic control as they needed the road to be closed.

The Venturers response team was finally released after 1.5 hours with thanks from the police for our assistance.

During the initial stages of the incident the police requested that VA01 transport the two juvenile cyclists to there home addresses as witnessing the incident had been somewhat traumatic for them especially as the out of control vehicle nearly collided with them as well as the other car that stopped to assist them and the driver of the vehicle involved.
