Saturday 21st August 2010

Our ambulance Community responder attended one call in the morning.

At approx 12.00 hrs BST Venturer Rescue One was launched on service to the aid of a capsized sailing dinghy near Calshot.

On arrival the two crew had successfully managed to right the vessel and were back on board. VR1 ensured all ok and no medical assistance required before closely escorting back into Calshot beach.

We also provided a waterborne lift for a BASICS doctor during the day after an incident he attended at Cowes before being called to the aid of a broken down yacht in the Beaulieu River, the vessel and two crew were towed to the safety of Bucklars hard and re-united with the rest of the family and friends that they had been sailing in fleet with.

Sunday 22nd August 2010

The morning saw VR1 called to the assistance of a vessel who had issued a Pan Pan call for assistance when they suffered a propeller wrap near Gurnard.

VR1 arrived on scene and took the vessel in tow to Cowes and successfully berthed
Alongside at Shepards Wharf.

The afternoon saw our routine helicopter exercise with Coastguard rescue 104, this provided a good introduction session for some of the new crews to learn about the work of the helicopter and ask the winch man a series of questions to develop there learning on the spot.

The evening was spent with both the Landrover 90 and Ambulance RRV on flood patrol / watch.

The control centre was also manned and we logged our presence with the police force as a band of severe rain and high winds hit the South Coast, fortunately we were not required as most people took the advice of local services not to travel.

Our crews returned to station and onto standby at 0300 hrs.
