Today saw the annual round the island race take place with Over 1700 yachts taking part. VR1 was afloat early in the morning and headed round to at Catharines point the most southerly top of the island were we held station until the last vessel was through.
Later in the afternoon we were summoned by the coastguard to the assistance of a vessel which had lost it's rudder, thankfully they had managed to rig something to get them home and a close escort was all which was required by our crew.
The rest of the day passed without further incident.
Today was our monthly scheduled helicopter exercise with coastguard rescue 104. The helicopter crew were as normal fantastic and allowed us plenty of time including fitting the ted (a spinal extrication device) and how to lift a spinal injury casualty.
