Again crews spent the day practising coming alongside, holding off and other boat handling manoeuvres in confined spaces, learning the difference of a Water Jet system and a propeller boat.
VR1 launched mid day to the assistance of a vessel aground in the Beaulieu River. Arrived on scene and established the vessel was only lightly aground, a line was passed and the vessel was towed clear of the bank.
Vessel and occupants checked and found to be well and the vessel continued on its way to Bucklars Hard.
Shortly after VR1 was re tasked by Solent Coastguard to locate a submerged mooring buoy reported as mid channel between Lepe and Gurnard providing a possible navigational hazard.
Arrived to find the buoy had been layed to mark the pipeline running from the mainland to the Island however not enough scope had been left on the chain.
With the coastguard informed we marked the buoy with a “Coastguard Aware” marker to highlight the danger to passing vessels.
During the afternoon we had our monthly helicopter exercise with Coastguard Rescue 104, we practiced the usual formations as well as procedures for the hoist winch jamming during a transfer.
