Saturday 10th April 2010

The cadets boat handling skills where once again to put to test today as they completed recovery of a person from the water, coming alongside underway, holding off and other various boat handling skills. they all performed very well, other than this the day passed without incident.

Sunday 11th April 2010

Today's training programme focused more on nautical terminology and search patterns, various small search plans were completed and executed in the western solent with the Cadets successfully locating the target fender each time.

Just as the station was beginning to shut down the control spotted a small day fishing vessel with engine failure near Lepe.

Solent Coastguard were informed and VR4 "Venturer TLC Online" was diverted from recovering to go to the vessels aid. upon arrival the vessel managed to restart the engine however it kept cutting out at regular intervals, once restarted again the boat was escorted to its launch point at Calshot Slipway, unfortunately it ran out of fuel before arriving at the slipway and VR4 had to tow the vessel the remaining distance.
