The League of Venturers Search and Rescue were this year invited to (By organisers) to RIBEX, a boat show dedicated to Rigid Inflatables.
We were kindly given the opportunity to escort Bear Grylls and Hugo Montgomery Swann into the marina so Bear Grylls could open the show.
For the rest of the weekend we were asked to provide a presence afloat to help Marshall the show and promote safety afloat.
We were again at RIBEX today with Venturer Rescue One, Three and Four.
Our crew were well placed to recover a yachtsmen when, as his vessel was coming into moor the opposite side of the pontoon to the lifeboat misjudged his leap to the jetty and fell between the water and the yacht.
He had only just surfaced when our crewman was in place to recover him, its not every day the rescues actually come to us!
Later in the day we were asked by the show organisers to go to the aid of a RIB with a rope around its propeller at the entrance to Cowes.
When VR1 arrived on the scene the vessel was already under tow from another RIB so we just had to escort them into the marina and assist in cutting the rope free.
Three of our four boats attended Ribex for the final day. The day passed without incident however on the homeward journey from Cowes we came across a broken down RIB with one occupant.
Our technician was able to source the problem back to the fuel tank and managed to rectify the situation, the gentleman was able to start his engine and proceed back to Cowes under his own power.
