Easter Weekend

Friday April 2nd 2010
The League of Venturers started the 2010 season afloat over the easter weekend.

After a quick refuel in Cowes VR2 completed a routine patrol before returning to the moorings at Lepe. The day was used to help re-introduce the crews to the new layout of the two beach rescue vessels. Each cadet was given a small tasking to undertake with the vessel in order to gain some sea time with the new craft.

Saturday April 3rd 2010
VR2 completed a long and detailed patrol of Southampton Water up past dock head, VR4 followed on behind helmed by one of the cadets who holds his IYT Powerboat and Ribmasters certificate. the patrol passed without incident and the boats returned to station

Sunday April 4th 2010
Once again other cadet members of the crew where given the opportunity under instruction to review there skills and practice aboard VR2, VR3 and VR4

Monday April 5th 2010
Whilst members of Alpha crew watching from VR2 the cadets demonstrated superb boat handling and judgment as the instructors set tasks for them to complete aboard VR4 and VR3, with VR3 being dressed as the "Casualty craft" the rotating crews of VR4 set about practicing recovery from a Lee shore, running a tow line in from the main RIB and throwing heaving lines and practicing long tows.

It is encouraging for the adult instructors to see that the training given to these youngsters over the past year or two pays off when they show such high standards of seamanship and skill, todays cadets but tomorrows lifeboat crews......

Thank fully the weekend passed without anyone requiring our help allowing good sea time and training for our young crews.
