VR3 and Vr4 concentrated today on beach rescue training, coming alongside, holding off, anchoring were just a few of the subject covered whilst VR1 concentrated on a small medical exercise in the Beaulieu river, practicing with the spinal board and TED extrication device.
In the evening we were called to the assistance of a car when it reversed into a pond at Mopley, on arrival at the scene within 8 minutes of the call the crew found that the driver had managed to escape leaving the Rescue crew to recover the vehicle and ensure the driver was safe and well, the tractor from lepe was summoned and recovered the car some 20 minutes later, after a final check to ensure the pond had not suffered any pollution and the local estate had been contacted our crews were stood down.
VR1 today spent its time in the Beaulieu River practicing securing to a buoy, coming alongside and other boat handling manoeuvres in amongst jetties and other obstructions, close quarter handling is an important part of boat handling for the Coxswains and practice makes perfect.
