Tailpiece - Only a Dog!

We would like to put on record our thanks to the members of the League of Venturers Sea Rescue Service at Lepe Beach.

 

While walking our golden retrievers near the Coastguard Cottages on July 6th one jumped into the river which flows under the road and into the sea.

 

It swam towards the entrance of the water tunnel and was carried by the current to the sea outlet where there is a grid.

 

The dog was trapped here and couldn't be released through the grid.

 

The boys of the League of Venturers were immediately on the spot in wet suits and went under the road in fast flowing deep water and finally managed to drag 'Marcus' to the bank.

'Only a dog'., yes, but important to us and it could have been a child.
