Again crews spent the day practising coming alongside, holding off and other boat handling manoeuvres in confined spaces, learning the difference of a Water Jet system and a propeller boat.

VR3 and Vr4 concentrated today on beach rescue training, coming alongside, holding off, anchoring were just a few of the subject covered whilst VR1 concentrated on a small medical exercise in the Beaulieu river, practicing with the spinal board and TED extrication device.

With the end of the season almost here and the cold weather beginning to take affect we have noticed a drop in the number of users afloat, fortunately this leaves more time for the cadets to practice their skills afloat and ashore.

Today was our scheduled helicopter exercise with Rescue 104, we practiced formations as well as dropping one of our Alpha crew into the water for the Helicopter to directly recover, again our thanks is due to the fantastic crews of the Coastguard Helicopter that allow us to practice with them and provide good time each month to train.

Today was spent training four new cadets in basic boat familiarisation and inducting them into the organisation. We had two calls just as we were beginning to shut down station, both to Vessels aground.

The only call today was to the assistance of a fishing vessel that had been spotted drifting un manned in the Beaulieu River, it soon became apparent that the vessel had come away from a group of fisherman on the beach and it was returned with grateful thanks and confirmation that no one was in the water.

Today was spent with all the cadets going afloat to practice boat handling skills, the cadet commanders ran several training sessions afloat and ashore as well as VR3 “Tlc Online Venturer” completing routine patrols of the Western Solent.

All three vessels launched on routine exercise and local familiarisation concentrating on navigation and day shapes in the local area, the day passed without incident and all assets were recovered and station down to night watch.

VR1 tasked by Solent coastguard to the assistance of a broken down yacht in the Beaulieu River. Arrived on scene within two minutes and took vessel in tow to mooring up river, details taken and stood down to return patrol.

The day passed with little incident afloat, a vessel sank of the entrance to Cowes and was duly dealt with by the Cowes RNLI Inshore Lifeboat.

We launched for routine training afloat between Lepe and Gurnard, On returning to station VR3 came across a broken down fishing vessel in the Beaulieu River.

Today proved the start of what was to become a long weekend for the Venturers SAR lifeboat crews.
